[Currently watching] The Red Sleeves

Anything Jun Ho is worth watching. Yeah yeah I know…he is a k pop idol. Before he was an actor he’s an idol. But, please! Take a listen. He is damn good actor.

Have you seen his drama? And of course the most iconic one of all is Good Manager or Chief Kim where he and Nam Goong Min won the best couple award.

Well…in this drama, he played the prince that had suffered most of his life and eventually became a king when his grandfather died. This drama has totally ruined most of us. This drama did a clever weaving comedic timing, serious, heart wrenching and boring themes all into one. It’s all well balanced and well played out. It’s not heavy on one theme and neglects others; like some drama who did too much of the betrayal and politicking that it got lost in its own plot.

The scene where Prince Yi San first got acquainted with the court Maid, Sung Duk Im in the earlier episodes was definitely funny. How Duk Im was so adamant that he was a lowly scholar who did not know his place and stepped all over the library or the Prince’s reading space. She even threw salts on him. And her face when she found out that the person that she had been rude to was actually THE prince!

I am pretty sure the prince had quite a fun field’s day on the day of the reckoning.

The story develops in the subsequent episodes, the prince’s affection for Duk Im also grow immensely. The affection is mutually reciprocated by Duk Im quietly but she is unable to accept and embrace the prince’s affection and attention for her. Duk Im does not wish to be one of the concubines and also refused to be married into the royal court. Duk Im is someone who’s determined and brave. She is also clever and had helped the prince thwarted off a big attack by the rebels. Yet, she is satisfied with working behind the curtain quietly knowing that her contribution has helped the kingdom. She is enormously big hearted.

Perhaps this is also one quality that endeared the prince to her.

The Red Sleeve is coming to an end and I am not looking forward to it.

In the preview, we saw a mourning King. We also saw Duk Im eventually agreed to be the King’s concubine. Did she die shortly after? Who killed her? Did she take her own life? So many questions but yet I am so afraid to even make a guess.

Episodes 13-15 were the most heart wrenching. I cried my eyeballs out. So, I couldn’t face the final episode.

I have to confess I didn’t think I would like this drama to be honest.

I didn’t think funny-sitcom-rom-com could be a workable possibility since Brooklyn 99. Before I start on this drama, I was thinking do we need another office romance, how many office romance does korean drama people have to make, but once I start on it I know this is a brilliant premise.

It’s so funny and entertaining and at the same time heartwarming.

It’s relatable.

We are a generation that can never afford to be home owners given the fact that the property prices skyrocket without much considerations for snails like us who are living paycheck to paycheck but keeping this in view as part of adulting.

Na Young Won is so endearing in this role and making her character so relatable and loveable. I could almost understand why that grumpy man of Yoo Ja Sung would have a soft side for her. That grumpy man though needs to chill his titties down abit. His grumpiness is not attractive and borders abusive. Yes, I get it he is perfect and that he has foresight and acumen in property investing etc but he needs to chill abit.

If anything, I always wonder why korean drama always depict the female lead as weak, poor and less educated whereas the male lead will forever be rich, educated and comes from privilege background. Why?

Even in 2021, the main leads premise has not changed much. It didn’t look like anything will change anytime soon. Not in another 5 years.

I can only hope Yoo Ja Sung could confront his emotions and be truthful with it in the coming episodes. Things are definitely hitting up and Ja Sung’s soft side for Na Young Won definitely goes beyond just helping her for sure. While I like how Na Young Won would just go with the flow and didn’t think too much of Ja Sung’s intention. Her naiveté is definitely endearing. She is not one to overthink things and she definitely has a strong character.

Her chemistry with Shin Gyeom is definitely cute!

I like how both of them could find a common ground to confide in each other and build the friendship although of course Shin Gyeom is more vested emotionally than Na Young Won. But, these two together is cute.

This drama is ridiculously cute, it’s one of the two dramas that I look forward to every Wed-Thur slots.

[Currently Watching] What Is Wrong With Secretary Kim

I haven’t been updating here. I haven’t been watching that many dramas like I used to.

I have been quite selective with what I watch these days.

Not that many dramas caught my eyes.

To be honest, since Goblin, I haven’t been able to regain my momentum for dramas. I was in a drama desert. Like nothing could match up to the gods of Goblins.

But, when I chanced upon What Is Wrong With Secretary Kim, I know and I know I must watch this drama. True enough, this drama is just so light-hearted and funny, you can’t help but laugh along with the stupidity it exudes yet adores these two all at the same time.

I have to say that Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young are just so beautiful. They are beautiful human beings which makes the drama watching a breeze.

In case you are living under the rock, have no idea what I am talking about, you’re welcome. I am talking about the latest drama in town. Only into its 4th episode, yet it has garnered so much hype. I couldn’t wait for Hump Day to come so I can shamelessly binge watch this drama.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this drama, I find myself being disappointed at the typical plot, and I wish Park Seo Joon will do some other roles. This feels like a reprise of his role in She Was Pretty. While the plot in She Was Pretty took a different route, the character that was portrayed seems alike. A cool and self absorb narcissist so full of himself can’t help but being drawn to his own reflection kind of persona. Sounds familiar?

But it is still premature of me to make any conclusion.

Let’s let the drama unfolds while we enjoy these views.
