Anything Jun Ho is worth watching. Yeah yeah I know…he is a k pop idol. Before he was an actor he’s an idol. But, please! Take a listen. He is damn good actor.
Have you seen his drama? And of course the most iconic one of all is Good Manager or Chief Kim where he and Nam Goong Min won the best couple award.
Well…in this drama, he played the prince that had suffered most of his life and eventually became a king when his grandfather died. This drama has totally ruined most of us. This drama did a clever weaving comedic timing, serious, heart wrenching and boring themes all into one. It’s all well balanced and well played out. It’s not heavy on one theme and neglects others; like some drama who did too much of the betrayal and politicking that it got lost in its own plot.
The scene where Prince Yi San first got acquainted with the court Maid, Sung Duk Im in the earlier episodes was definitely funny. How Duk Im was so adamant that he was a lowly scholar who did not know his place and stepped all over the library or the Prince’s reading space. She even threw salts on him. And her face when she found out that the person that she had been rude to was actually THE prince!
I am pretty sure the prince had quite a fun field’s day on the day of the reckoning.
The story develops in the subsequent episodes, the prince’s affection for Duk Im also grow immensely. The affection is mutually reciprocated by Duk Im quietly but she is unable to accept and embrace the prince’s affection and attention for her. Duk Im does not wish to be one of the concubines and also refused to be married into the royal court. Duk Im is someone who’s determined and brave. She is also clever and had helped the prince thwarted off a big attack by the rebels. Yet, she is satisfied with working behind the curtain quietly knowing that her contribution has helped the kingdom. She is enormously big hearted.
Perhaps this is also one quality that endeared the prince to her.
The Red Sleeve is coming to an end and I am not looking forward to it.
In the preview, we saw a mourning King. We also saw Duk Im eventually agreed to be the King’s concubine. Did she die shortly after? Who killed her? Did she take her own life? So many questions but yet I am so afraid to even make a guess.
Episodes 13-15 were the most heart wrenching. I cried my eyeballs out. So, I couldn’t face the final episode.
